It’s Summer and hopefully you are rejoicing in the official start of the Summer Solstice. “The green will never / again be so green, so purely and lushly / new,” as the poet Marge Percy has put it. That alone, the brand-newness of the season, the brand-newness of who you or I might be this time around to consider how you might be different, to consider whom or what you might want to be.
If summer is a play, June is its opening act.
Summer dresses, more time with friends and family, lighter meals, outdoor music and getaways making this a memorable time. Keep moving, grooving, have fun and appreciate every moment of being alive. Let’s not waste a minute NOW because the world is going to get very noisy in the Fall.
We know a deeply divided country isn’t merely a political or ideological issue; it’s a profound threat to our collective well-being. The physical harm is evident in the stark statistics of a pandemic exacerbated by misinformation. However, the emotional toll is just as significant, if not more so. The anxiety, stress, and fear caused by ongoing conflicts seep into every aspect of life, affecting our mental health and relationships. Let’s enjoy these summer days where it feels lighter and more at ease.
A new season refreshes us to start anew…..
Let’s make the best of what’s in front of us.
We often yearn for a very small and selective range of life experiences — the fun times, the happy days, the things that make us feel comfortable. And yet the full range of our daily reality is often quite different. Life gives us an extensive array of
experiences that evoke feelings ranging from sadness to uncertainty to frustration to curiosity to fear… to happiness to excitement and joy. These feelings are all part of being alive. So we can revolt against the wide-ranging experiences life naturally provides, or we can make the very best of them. Starting today, let’s do the latter…
This means embracing every moment with our full presence, being open and vulnerable, being gentle with ourselves when times are tough, and practicing sincere gratitude whenever possible. Let’s always remind ourselves to be kind to those around you.
Let the longer days spread out before us. Let us spread ourselves out in them, lie down in the grass or on the beach or in the splendor of your backyard for a snooze. I’m sure ready!
